Johnna Hepner

Johnna Hepner joined PMA in 2010 as director of food safety and technology and serving as part of the food safety team headed by Chief Science and Technology Officer Dr. Bob Whitaker.

Hepner works with Dr. Whitaker and key members to create and implement food safety and science programs, products and services, including those focused on technology, environmental sustainability and biotechnology. Her responsibilities include monitoring, evaluating and collaborating on produce-specific food safety guidance and standards, as well as legislation and regulation.

Hepner possesses more than 20 years’ experience in the food safety arena. Prior to joining PMA, Hepner worked for Markon Cooperative Inc., Salinas, California, as food safety director. In this position, she forged extensive industry contacts while interacting with company suppliers and vendors to fulfill responsibilities that included setting, evaluating and enforcing Markon’s food safety standards.

A member of the Food Safety & Technology Council and the Institute of Food Technologists, Hepner holds a bachelor of science degree in food science with minors in nutrition and chemistry from California State University.
